By now we’ve officially broken up with 2017 (won’t say that we’ll miss you) and have embraced 2018 with warm and loving arms. With a new year comes new trends. A fresh perspective, shall we say. But not all trends are fleeting. Some have serious staying power. Others… well, we won’t say we’ll miss you.
Let’s have a look at the trends that have our commitment, and the ones that we’re leaving behind along with problematic male celebrities, problematic Pepsi commercials, and any rumours about Kylie Jenner being pregnant (kidding, call us as soon as they confirm!)
Slips over T-shirts
Don’t get us wrong. We love slip dresses. We love T-shirts. But this combo has been done?to?death. Rather show off your statement T-shirt with an on-trend A-line mini, or wear your slip with an oversized jacket – better yet, a heritage blazer.

The standout sandal, the one that catapulted Rihanna into the fashion mogul stratosphere, is here to stay (Well, until Ri comes up with a new shoe to shake up the scene.) Wears yours with just about anything – we particularly love the sportier styles paired with floral dresses for contrast.
This was an ummmh, weird moment for everyone involved (the model included). We can get behind see-through coats (because why should you cover up your outfit) and see-through boots (hey new socks) but see-through jeans just seem uncomfortable? Sticky? Stressful? And we definitely had enough stress in 2017. Bye y’all.
Socks and heels
This trend keeps on making a comeback and we’re not upset about it. It’s a fun, inexpensive way of adding that instant cool factor to any outfit. We love this best with an open-toe heel or even with sliders for the fashion-forward dresser.
We’re still not 100 percent sure how this became a “thing.”
Have you ever worn a suit? A perfectly tailored suit? In a show-stopping colour? If yes, then you are fully aware of how powerful you feel when donning one. If no? Get right on it to strut your stuff in 2018.
