Classic long-sleeved shirts are wonderfully versatile and goes everywhere in style, from boardroom to brunch to a braai. While crisp white shirts will always have a place of honour in women's wardrobes, shirts have evolved into an array of styles and shapes. It's no longer all about white and pale blue shirts everywhere you look. Think oversized shirts and jeans or shorts as laid-back weekend wear. If you're not so keen on going extra large, go for a roomier than usual high-low shirt. The effect will still be 'boyfriend shirt' but won't add bulk to your silhouette. Breeze through summer in short-sleeved shirts in lightweight fabrics such as viscose and even satin. The new cold-shoulder shirts are super cool in both senses of the word – they will help you to keep your cool when the sun is beating down and are a directional take on classic women's shirts. Look for pinstripes and on-trend prints that give shirts a quirky new personality and don't forget to add at least one denim shirt to your shopping cart, whether it's a classic fit, chambray or an off-the-shoulder style. Whichever style of shirt you choose, here are what to look for that it fits properly. The most obvious is that button-up shirts should not pull and gape at the front. If it's a worry, look for a shirt with a bit of stretch. Button it up all the way and see that the shirt fits around your hips too. Walk around a little to see that it stays in place at the widest part of your hips. Long sleeves should come to just below your wrist (just like men's long-sleeved shirts) so that they peek out from your jacket sleeves. Unless, of course, it's a romantic style with frills around the cuffs. Tempted to try one of the great new shirt designs and trends? Take a look at Spree's extensive range and get shirty!
