Jumpsuits & Playsuits
Jumpsuits are giving dresses a run for their money as the preferred all-in-one slip-on-and-go item in women's wardrobes around the world. Onesies were quirky and fun while it lasted but jumpsuits can take you so many more places. Even Royal Ascott, that British institution that has more rigorous dress codes than Buckingham Palace, announced that it 'officially welcomes the jumpsuit as an acceptable item of clothing’ for the by-invitation-only Royal Enclosure. What that does, is give women everywhere the go-ahead to wear a jumpsuit to a wedding (after all, Solange Knowles did and she was the bride), cocktails, black-tie dress-your-best events, the office and Saturday socials. This season, they come ruffled, cropped, draped and body-con; tomboyish, sexy and sporty; feminine and fierce. Keep in casual in sporty stripes or hit the dancefloor in a satiny jumpsuit that sashays with you. Black remains the elegant option and gives this playful number grown-up sensuality. Just as easy to wear, is the playsuit, the jumpsuit’s mischievous cousin. Don't be deterred if the name reminds you of childhood rompers; they are 100% grown-up and 100% fun. A short and sweet jumpsuit with floral prints or even boyish dungarees are a great alternative to a skirt and top or shorts and T-shirt, especially when you have a day's worth of picnicking and frolicking or festival-going ahead. No wardrobe malfunctions here! Jumpsuits and playsuits don't need much accessorizing and styling. Go easy in sneakers or flat sandals and a wide belt or oversized earrings and wedges to echo these wonderfully versatile items' ’70s roots. Wow in a softly draped design and heels. When the mood strikes, jumpsuits toughen up beautifully too; just add a new-season leather jacket. Now that effortless is the new style standard, a few well-chosen playsuits will help do it in style. After all, it makes dressing as simple as 1, 2, 3 – jumpsuit, shoes, bag and you're out the door. Isn't it time you got your jumpsuit A-game on?
