A good coat is for life. Is it any wonder, then, that deciding on one can occupy you almost right through the season? Black or bright? Fashion-forward or classic? Knee-length or short? Who knew coats come in so many shapes and sizes? Snuggle up in a beautiful winter coat when the Joburg temperatures reach freezing point in winter. Padded puffers, faux fur, hoodies… you can have – and wear – it all. Alternatively, a trans-seasonal coat in a lightweight fabric in a neutral colour (grey or tan, for instance) will let you channel Scandi chic throughout the year. Or go sleeveless – sleeveless coats are a lifesaver in more temperate climates. (Cape Town and Durban, that's you.) Slip it on over a knit or poloneck to stay warm without being weighed down. An elegant belted trench remains a must-have but consider a bright red or emerald green one that will give you the same polished look as well as give a chilly grey day a jolt of colour. There is really no rule that says a coat has to be black or charcoal, although you’ll find all the classic colours in our range of coats too. Otherwise look at a sweeping duster. It may look a little like a trench but the looser fit and wider collar give it a far more relaxed look. More tomboyish and outdoorsy coats tend to be shorter like puffers and bombers. These off-duty coats can take the rough and tumble of weekend outings or the jostle on the morning bus in their stride. Once you've seen our incredibly affordable coats, you may well settle on two. You'll look like a million dollars and no-one will ever guess that you got them online.
