Hair accessories without a doubt are slightly frivolous and risk being girlie but women love them for their ability to turn the worst bad hair day into something good. Also because they somehow spell party, fun and occasionally wedding. The grown-up equivalent of hair bands, Alice bands and hair clips aka barrettes are made from fabric not plastic or are covered in fabric and are more likely to sparkle with diamanté than glitter. Women also like flowers – fresh or faux – in their hair as much as little girls do. While it may sound a little extreme, less is most definitely more as far as hair accessories go. It's a matter of earrings or a hair clip, never both. And did you notice that we said 'a hair clip'? Two hair clips, except if they're schoolyard hairpins, are not a good idea either. Neither are two Alice bands. Layering as a look doesn't work above the chin, unless you're on stage at the Moulin Rouge. If it's all too much bling to your liking, start with a broad fabric hairband. Diamanté buckle optional. In fact, if you don't move on from a hairband, that's okay too. They are wonderfully quirky and a lifesaver on those mornings when you don't have time to tame your hair. On that note, slightly disheveled hair with an Alice band is more grown-up than Alice-through-the-looking-glass hair with a little flip at the ends. Hair bands look particularly cute and a little tomboy-girlish with buzz cuts or pixie cuts. Hair clips and barrettes are a better option if you're going for a sleek bun or glossy straight tresses. If you're going to wear an embellished Alice band or glittery hair clip, it's best to keep the rest of your outfit pared down and unembellished – sparkles everywhere look best on three-year-olds going to their first Disney princess party. At Spree, you will find just what you need to accessorize your crowning glory – grown-up Alice bands, diamanté and pearl hair grips and bright beachy hairbands as well as subtly embellished hairbands that give new meaning to the term 'hairdresssing'.
