Get your baby boy all the gear he needs by stocking up on different styles of shoes for each new adventure. Start out by getting him soft leather shoes that will be gentle on little developing feet. If he’s learnt to walk barefoot, then shoes could take some used to getting to. As he moves from crawling to standing and those first wobbly steps he will need a pair of sturdy sneakers to support him along the way. While you will be tempted to size up as much as possible remember not to go too big. Learning to walk is tricky enough for a baby boy without being tripped up by his shoes. Ill-fitting shoes can also result in his little feet being chaffed and irritated. Since you can’t go too big, you will need to change his shoes and socks every few months. Buy shoes that do not need a “break-in” period as babies don’t have time or the know how to be patient. Their shoes should be comfortable immediately.
Top characteristics to look out for in his next pair of shoes: it should have a firm heel, it should be flexible in the toe area so that the shoe bends when your baby boy walks, but it should be rigid in the middle to support his foot. Once you find the right fit you can expand his shoe collection. Sandals or flip flops will be shoe essentials in summer to keep his feet cool but protected. You can also get a pair of slip-ons when you’re racing to get ready in the mornings. For winter, you’ll need a pair of gum boots, for jumping in puddles after a rain shower.
